Christmas Vacation 2012

It starts Wednesday. I'm so flipping excited!

I decided to take a study break and come back to my blog to write a little bit about what I've been up to these past three months.

October was a good month. I dressed up like a giraffe for Halloween, went home for a weekend to visit with my family and Becky, and did not much else.

November brought Thanksgiving and a great visit with my family. We had our dinner with Aunt Maria and Pery who has come to Houston to live with us. We went to see the new Lincoln movie after dinner. Pretty cool. The following evening, we went to dinner at Kona Grill and saw Ana Karenina at River Oaks Theatre. Afterwards, we got froyo at Pinkberry and went to see the lights on Post Oak. The following day, I flew back to Kingsville.

This month has been rather hectic with giving final exams to the Biology and A&P classes. They know absolutely nothing. Mark my words, I will definitely be seeing some of those students again as they will have to repeat two of the easiest science classes ever because of their laziness. I can only hope they put as much effort into their studies next semester as they did on planning their new tattoos. That literally happened one day. What Chinese lettering and tribal markings have to do with dense connective tissues, adipose tissue and keratinocytes I have NO idea.

Friday we had the annual Biology departmental Christmas party at Dr. Galloway's apartment. It was fun and we all participated in dinner, drinking, white elephant gift exchange, and much merriment. I ended up with a door sign that I left behind because I wasn't a big fan of it. Oh well.

This past weekend has been dedicated to getting as much sleep as possible and also getting my embryology studying done. Wednesday I have my only two finals, then I pack up Lucius and head home to Houston for a month.

I am so excited to get my Christmas/Apocalypse/Birthday fun times on... woohoo!

Okay, study break over. I guess I might take a bit more time off to get in a workout. Meh. Okay... stay classy, Narvaezes :)

"Deep in the South of Texas Not so Long Ago..."

Hello, fellow Narvaez!

It's been quite a long time since I've updated. Well, I've been in Kingsville for about 3 weeks now and It's been eventful to say the least. As eventful as a town of 26,213 can be...

I got my TA assignments and am teaching two Anatomy & Physiology labs and a Biology 1 lab. That's kept me rather busy. I'm also taking two classes with two respective labs, going to my TA meetings, and attending graduate seminar. LOADS OF WORK.

Last weekend, I went with my friends Hondo, Lina, and Ofie to Corpus to celebrate Ofie's pharmacy white coat ceremony. We went with their family to a steak and seafood restaurant not far from the beach then came home. Good times :)

The weekend before that, my parents and I went to McAllen to meet some family and retrieve my cousin Pery who's come to live with us in Houston. We went out to eat, had fun at the pool, ordered pizzas (and one gluten free pizza for me), and just had fun together.

I've basically been in my room all these weeks, studying for quizzes, working on lab homework, and preparing my lab lecture notes for the following week.

I did buy a Kindle from a friend and fellow TA who wasn't using it at all. It's a second generation, but it works just as well. I feel kind of relieved it wasn't a Kindle Fire... all those extra apps and web browsing features... that's what my laptop is for and it would defeat the purpose of the Kindle itself - to read books. I deleted some of her books but kept the really good ones like The Iliad, The Odyssey, Dracula, and I purchased Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix because I never finished it before I returned it and the other 6 books to Becky. I had a blast reading while making gluten free lemon cupcakes and right before drifting off the sleep.

So far today I've finished my Embryology lab assignment, showered, cleaned my room, Swiffered and disinfected my floors and yoga mats, had a delicious late lunch of tuna fish and g.f. crackers, and talked to my BFF Beeks :)

I think I'll print out my Biology lab outlines to get ready for next week. I should also look into what I'm teaching on Monday and Tuesday so I don't walk in there with nothing prepared.

I also managed to make a lot of headway with regards to the Thadderz-Lizzy wedding. I never got a confirmation from Gabberz as to lodging at her apartment, but after a fun conversation with Nisi, I'm scheduled to stay at her apartment that weekend. I also scored a (tentative) date in one Sensei Jesse. So, I'm excited for the weekend of November 3rd. I hope I get more updating done as the year progresses. I hope this update finds y'all well... Until next time!

I Know It's Been A While Sweetheart, We Hardly Talk, I Was Doing My Thing

OH MY GOODNESS WHERE DO I EVEN BEGIN!?

So the Olympics were epic. Becky and I enjoyed watching the uber attractive male athletes running and swimming and gymnastic-ing...

The week before Becky's 23rd birthday, I had our friends over for a BBQ in her honor. It was fun! We nearly died of heat stroke in a nearby park, grilled burgers and hot dogs, played a fierce game of Apples to Apples... then once the guys peaced out, the girls went to Yard House for nightcaps and fries. Fun was had :)

On Becky's ACTUAL birthday... well, the night before, she and I took her brother Isaac (yes that Isaac) to The Hay Merchant for boozin. It was nice hanging out just the three of us. We later stopped at Taco Cabana for birthday sopapillas that took about an hour to make. Ridiculous.
The following day, the 16th, Becky and I packed up and left for Orlando, Florida! We finally took that vacation to Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure we had been planning for years. We actually started planning in 2007 when it was announced that The Wizarding World of Harry Potter would be constructed. So, we've been anxiously awaiting this trip.

We spent a day and a half at Islands of Adventure and a whole day at Universal Studios. We had so much fun, but the weekend wreaked havoc on my digestive system. That being said, I spent most of the days sick but plowing through so as to enjoy as much as I possibly could. Sunday morning we flew back home, fat and happy.

We'll be back in the next few years I hope... well, I best go to sleep now :)
Until next time!
