SPOOOOOOOOONS!!!! Pt. 2

So, I may have mentioned that before leaving to Dallas, Becky and I were going to see The Room.
Well, we did and we had a very fun time. All the crazy people were there with their spoons, their footballs, and their red roses. Needless to say, we enjoyed ourselves.

Before the movie, however, we went out to celebrate Jesse's 26th birthday! Earlier in the day, we had been discussing where to eat dinner and while at Costco, he messaged me that were were to dine at a place called 'Pupusa Buffet'. Mommy literally LOLed at that because she didn't think that a white boy like Jesse would know what pupusas were. He didn't. He just read the reviews on Yelp! and decided to give it a try.

The night began when Becky arrived at the house and we devoured a huge slice of King's Cake. Dinner wasn't until 7:30, almost 8, so we were definitely hungry. We then got ready and left. The restaurant... well, I'll show you a picture:

Becky: There are bars on the windows... 

There were bars on the windows. This roused suspicion in Beeks that were weren't in the best of neighborhoods. I called Jesse, told him to come take a look, then we went in once his friends Vi and Chris arrived. Safety in numbers. The food was actually pretty delicious. The buffet was a reasonable price and you got to eat as many as you could possibly manage. Becky and I each ate 2. Jesse, Chris, Joseph, Vincent, and James probably ate up to about 8 each. It was quite disgusting to watch. After a respectable number of pupusas, they all complained about their insides wanting to die from (1) the amount of cheese ingested, and (2) the quantity of pupusas eaten. I hate to say it, but they brought it on themselves. Jesse had an impressive food baby by the time he finished eating... but he exaggerated it by extending his belly as far as he could. It looked bizzarre considering his thin frame:

Ally: Aww when are you due?
Joseph: I FELT IT KICK!

Following the Pupusa Buffet, we ventured out into the night... only to find ourselves back at the Marquis II for drinks and conversation. When the night out with friends was over, we got in the car and drove to River Oaks Theatre for the midnight screening of The Room. We must've waited FOREVER outside since Tinker Tailer Soldier Spy was playing in the main theatre and was taking a while to wrap up. Once we got inside, we armed ourselves with spoons and enjoyed the movie. After the movie, we got our usual post-Room meal at Wendy's and sat in my room on the floor having a picnic, watching Gentleman's Rants on YouTube. Then we went to bed. It was a fun night, indeed :)

Becky had a rum'n'coke at my suggestion. Delicioso!

Let's Raise Hell In The Streets, Drink Beer, And Get Into Trouble: GROUNDHOG 2012

SO... the annual tradition of Groundhog is upon us. Today was the 5k fun run, but I stayed in and worked on Biostatistics. Just as I type this, people are passing my window, returning from the PowderPuff football game. Again, I stayed inside to work on Biostatistics and color my hair.

Thursday was another story.
I went Groundhog TGIT and it was so much fun!!! I went with the intention of visiting with my friend Denise and hanging out with her, but she left early. After she left, I was bombarded with greetings from friends that graduated in May. There were so many people there from '11. I was really happy because I had missed them so much! I hung out the rest of the time with my Mexicans and then I returned home. What I didn't expect was the hellish hangover that lasted all of Friday. I did manage to attend Biostats class and turn in homework. I did get teased by Dr. Brown-Marsden for my dead expression but she did complement my willingness to be in class, also my ability to pay attention and perform well despite the circumstances. She's so funny :)

Tonight is Groundhog's Party in the Park and YES it will be in the old UD Groundhog Park now that Tom Braniff is open! I am looking forward to Denise coming over and pre-gaming with me, the hay ride, the free beer and food/s'mores, and of course, the music! I will definitely be taking plenty of photos and video, so I should probably be charging my camera battery right now...

Well, I think it's time to start getting ready and wash my hair. I've also got to finish reading and eat something for lunch, so the early shower should give my hair time to air-dry that way I can get ready for the party faster! I'll be sure to update you guys on the evening's festivities tomorrow :)

So, today was my first day of my last semester here at UD. I'm enrolled in 4 3-credit courses, two of which are actual classes. I hope this means less homework and more time to actually get work done & go to bed at a reasonable hour.

Today was a good day since my only class today was Human Infectious Diseases with Dr. Slaughter. Throughout the years, Dr. Slaughter has been known to dish out the funniest quotes while lecturing, and this introductory class was no exception. Here are a few highlights from today's class:

On what we'll be learning this semester:

"I won't even comment on the STDs."

"I LOVE fever. It's great."

On keeping hands clean in a hospital:

"I'm washing off the old patient."

On fomites:

"Cell phones. They're nasty."

On the cleanliness of a bathroom versus a kitchen:

"I could probably go into the bathroom here and lick the toilet."

On hepatitis A and other hepatitis:

"Jack in the Box. You're getting a super taco. I'll let your imagination finish that statement."

"What's the other hepatitis that's 'IN' again?"

On the list of what makes successful pathogens:

"Can we equate this to being a successful student?"

On the list entry "Able to Replicate Within Host":

"I'm not touching that one."

On a patient that came in with a fever of 109 who survived but with residual brain damage:

Dr. Slaughter's just full of fun advice and anecdotes. I will definitely be looking forward to this class every Tuesday & Thursday.

My other class is Biostatistics which I dropped second semester in order to take Gen Chem II. The other 6 credits are research-related. Therefore, I have less in-class time so more time to get things done. Speaking of, I should probably head up and get some dinner before I continue my reading. I can't focus on an empty stomach. BANG!: Ramblings on The Big Bang Theory & Directional Failures

So, I was watching clips of my new favorite show and I realized, in an episode of The Big Bang Theory, on a trip to Galveston, Leonard, Howard, and Raj are driving down Westheimer here in Houston. Of course they're not actually in Houston, but the producers clearly green-screened Westheimer onto the background.

That's all and well until I realized that they're driving west on Westheimer, but Galveston is backwards (SE) of the direction they're headed. That's just what I noticed.

Happy New Year!

I decided to take a break from packing to write about our NYE...

As I previously mentioned, our new year's eve was to be spent at a Rockets game against Atlanta. The tickets were rather vague and I didn't know where our seats were. When we got there, we found that they were really good seats. Mommy's friend from work gave us a set of 4 tickets, so Mommy, Daddy, Beeksies and I went together. The package included the tickets and a parking pass. The tickets allowed us to enter through the skyway which is a special entrance into the stadium that leads directly into the vip seating. The area we were in was rather exclusive and was walled off from the other patrons. There was a restaurant, fancy Papa John's, a carving station and a huge bar with plenty of booze. I was pretty impressed.

Mommy and Daddy left to get dinner and Becky and I got food and drinks from the concession area. Speaking of the concession area, it had a separate bathroom and a separate merchandise area, both with no lines. It was pretty cool. We all ate and waited for the game to begin. During the game, I played an aggressive game of phone-tag with my friend Nick who works for the Rockets and was there that day. Finally, during the 4th quarter, he came by and said hello to us and caught up with my parents. After the game, we went home, watched some Justin Bieber on New Year's Rockin' Eve... and Becky went home.

Ally: Y'all should audition for that.
Mommy: We are retiring soon...

After Becky left, we Skyped with our family after the NYE crystal ball dropped. We miss them so much! We got to see everyone and see the babies in action. They're the funniest ever :)

At midnight, we all gave each other hugs and kisses and then I proceeded to give my babies some hugs as well. Stacy was all for the affection, but Calliope was rude and washed her smooch off of her face. I was a little offended. But what are you gonna do?

This weekend is my last in Houston, as I'll be leaving for Dallas on Sunday. Becky and I will be spending our Friday evening/Saturday together and getting in some quality together time before I go. I believe I'll be seeing Jesse sometime this week, as well. I will miss all my friends and our adventures, but I'm also glad to be returning. Being cooped up in a house all day is getting super boring. I am totally looking forward to Friday, because Becky and I have been saving up spoons. If you recall, a year ago on the 14th, we went to see The Room at River Oaks Theatre. Well, we're doing it again!!! In case you forgot:

I loved it so much, I went with Brianna in Dallas. I think both enjoyed it, but are afraid to admit it.
